National Padel Team Selection Criteria (1)
The following criteria will be applied in the selection of players for the National Padel Team:
1. Citizenship or Passport
- Only players who are citizens or hold a valid passport from the country will be eligible to represent the national team.
- Players must provide proof of citizenship or a valid passport upon request.
2. IPT Ranking
- Players must have an IPT ranking (official national Padel Tour) in their base category and age group.
- Selection will be based on their ranking within the IPT or similar official padel circuits relevant to their age and skill level.
We are pleased to announce that the IPT Major Tournaments will soon take place at Bushy Park and Moira! These tournaments are official events and will include a Vets category, ensuring all players are welcome to participate.
The rankings obtained from these tournaments will play a crucial role in selecting players for the upcoming European Championship, making this a significant opportunity for those aspiring to represent at an international level.
Your participation in these events is essential, not only for your personal development but also for the growth of padel in Ireland. By competing in official tournaments, you contribute to increasing the sport’s profile, strengthening the competitive scene, and supporting the development of padel within the country.
Players competing in circuits outside of Ireland, such as in the UK, Spain, or Portugal, will have their rankings validated and assimilated based on their performance in those respective countries. The technical staff will thoroughly evaluate each player’s curriculum, including training programmes, commitment to PFI, and past conduct in tournaments.
Notably, 50% of the team will be selected based on their performance in the IPT Major Tournaments, ensuring a fair and competitive selection process.
This event will also serve as a trial for new players seeking to enter the competitive scene. If you are interested in participating, this is your opportunity to showcase your skills and potentially advance your padel career.

- Players may be invited to participate in trials based on their IPT ranking, performances in national or international tournaments, and other relevant achievements.
5. Coaching Staff Criteria
- The selection committee, composed of coaching staff and other relevant experts, will assess players based on their skill, attitude, potential, and ability to function effectively as part of a team.
- The coaching staff will ensure that all selected players are in peak physical and mental condition and align with the team’s objectives.
6. Behavioural and Conduct Standards
- Players who have previously been banned or suspended from representing the national team due to misconduct, unprofessional behaviour in tournaments, or actions contravening the values and regulations of Padel Federation Ireland (PFI) will not be eligible for selection.
- All players must demonstrate professionalism, respect, and adherence to the PFI Code of Conduct during tournaments and team activities.
- National trials may be conducted to further evaluate players’ performance, consistency, and fitness if necessary.
