Coaching questions and practical answers

Find clear answers on coach education, licences, Garda vetting, first aid, insurance, safeguarding, and public coach profiles.

Getting started

How do I become a padel coach in Ireland?

Begin with the coaching course route that matches your experience, then keep evidence of coach education or equivalent coaching background. PFI can confirm the current coach licence and profile requirements.

Do I need to complete a course before applying for a coach licence?

Coach education is part of the recognised FIP coaching pathway. PFI can confirm what evidence is required for your role, licence route, or profile submission.

Where can I find current course information?

Padel Coach Ireland provides current course information and course enquiries for the public coaching pathway.

Licence and renewal

Is the coach licence separate from a player licence?

Yes. Coach and referee licence routes are separate from player licences. The coach licence is EUR 50 per year, with renewal steps confirmed through PFI.

How long will a coach licence last?

A coach licence is annual. PFI can confirm the current renewal route for your licence before you renew.

Will coaches renew through the Padel Portal?

Coach licence actions are handled separately from player licence actions. The PFI Padel Portal may support coach-specific steps where available, and PFI can confirm the current renewal route.

Safety and compliance

Will coaches need Garda vetting?

Coaches whose role involves relevant work with children or vulnerable people should expect Garda vetting through the approved organisation route. PFI can confirm the current sport-specific process.

Will coaches need first aid certification?

First aid training is good practice and may be expected or required for certain roles, venues, programmes, camps, or events. Check what certificate is expected before coaching.

Will coaches need insurance?

Coaches should check what cover applies before delivering sessions. The expectation may depend on whether the coach is independent, club-based, venue-based, or working in a programme.

Coach directory

How does a coach appear in the Find a Coach directory?

Coaches can use Submit Your Coach Profile to send public profile details. Submissions go through admin review before public display.

Can freelance coaches appear in the directory?

Yes. Freelance coaches can list counties or areas served, and may include a preferred club or venue where relevant.

Can a coach be removed from the directory?

Yes. PFI can review or unpublish a profile if information, safeguarding, licence, or conduct concerns arise.
